SBI-test: EPS compared with mineral wool
The single burning item fire test (SBI test) is used to test the fire behavior of external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS). In the short video, commercially available gray EPS competes against mineral wool. The result is clear: an ETICS with gray EPS passes the new European fire test without any problems and thus ensures fire safety.
The video shows the setup and execution of an SBI test at an accredited and notified testing institute in Germany. The fire exposure through the test fire lasts 20 minutes and parameters such as energy release, flame propagation as well as smoke development are measured. Flaming of the ETICS causes the EPS insulation material to melt immediately behind the plaster and to retreat behind the plaster, which remains intact.
