Milestone: Packaging made of 100% recycled EPS
First successful tests with 100% recyclable EPS
The HIRSCH Servo Group, as one of the leading
manufacturers of EPS insulation materials, packaging and machinery, has
together with BEWiSynbra successfully completed the first tests with 100%
recyclable EPS and produced a limited edition of packaging made of this 100%
recycled EPS. The BEWiSynbra Group, one of the leading producers of EPS in
Europe, has recently introduced an innovative EPS that is 100% recyclable and
can be recycled over and over again.
"We have tested at our headquarters in Glanegg/Austria how to pre-foam the new raw material from 100% recycled EPS and we molded parts from the resulting EPS that meet our high quality requirements. The 100% recycled EPS parts are slightly off-white compared to conventional EPS and the mechanical properties are virtually comparable," says HIRSCH Servo CEO Harald Kogler. "Too few people know that EPS is 100% recyclable. Now we can offer the industry a sustainable alternative that provides an additional incentive for reuse and recycling. "The next step will be to convince our customers to use this sustainable material for their protective transport packaging," says Harald Kogler.
"The response to our 100% recycled EPS has
been overwhelming. Today, only a small part of the EPS is reused and an even
smaller part is recycled. Our new product has the potential to change that. It
is a sustainable alternative to EPS production from conventional raw
materials," says Alan Moss, Managing Director of BEWiSynbra RAW. "We will start
commercial deliveries to selected customers in early 2020," says Alan
