On Sunday, August 22, 2010 the moment finally arrived for unveiling the two tonne block of ice that had been taken from Goggausee to Himmelberg on February 5, 2010 and packed in 30 cm thick passive house insulation from STO (manufactured by HIRSCH Porozell in Glanegg).
The results exceeded all expectations: 56 percent of the original ice block was still left even after 200 days (!) of defying the heat (what is more, the average temperatures this summer were two degrees above normal). The world record was therefore broken!
Apart from the fun aspect, the bet shows just how important modern, highly efficient thermal insulation is and what a significant contribution it makes to climate protection.
